What is conflict?
Why is it so prevalent?
What is its purpose in life?

Why do we shy away from it, and wish it away from our lives?
......................

Conflict.

.......................

A word that promises dissent, division, anger, struggle, and above all, violence.
There is no other meaning for this singular word.
There are many examples of conflicts of every stripe recorded in the annals of history, and remembered in the memories of those who experience it.
Everything from personal inner battles to local fights to the great wars of destruction are all the products of conflict.
All have their roots in conflict, all are its progeny.

Local disagreements, quarrels, violent fights, arguments gone too far, and wars of all levels, these and more are what comes from conflict.
Conflict brings suffering, distrust, anger, rage, hate, and death.

These things we fear to such a degree that we shudder at the very mentioning of conflict.
So ingrained are we with fear at the very abomination of conflict's gifts that we absolutely hope and wish that conflict will not enter our lives.

Yet still it comes.

Sometimes we think that conflict should not exist. No one can deny that somewhere deep in their hearts and minds lies the vision of a utopian paradise.
A place where everything and everyone are in harmony, such perfect harmony that one need not fear hardship nor suffering nor death.
Such an idyllic place would be considered Eden, heaven, or any other paradise prevalent in our myriad beliefs.
Such paradises would be completely free of all conflict, but sadly this is not so.

We wish for no conflict, yet still it comes.
We believe that conflict must have no purpose in the process of life.
That it is vulgar, abominable, savage.

Yet the sad truth is, conflict is but one part of the circle, and unfortunately in this world, conflict is sometimes necessary.
This is one truth that none of us want to hear whatsoever, one of many truths that we will no doubt deny to our fullest extent.
But......it's there.

Conflict cannot be denied.
Cannot be suppressed.
Cannot be stopped.
Cannot be erased.

But.......it cannot be reviled, either.

Conflict is terrible, yes, but it is also sometimes needed.
Without it, progress could not occur, people would not adapt, and above all, the many evils of this world would have free reign over peaceful sheep.
Conflict is both the weapon of evil........and good, even if good denies it.
Conflict has been used by the many dark forces of this world to create such horrors that existed only in our worst nightmares, but it has also been in the service of those who fight selflessly for the ones they love, for the nation they are loyal to, and for the greater good.

Conflict is terrible, yes, but if necessary, it must be fought.
Conflict cannot be avoided, and one must be ready for it if it comes to your doorstep.
Conflict is the constant companion of ALL living things, whether it be for personal gratification, self-defense, noble virtues, depraved desires, or for the simple act of survival.

THAT...is the purpose of conflict, one of many it is charged with.
To be the tool you use to struggle onwards in a world filled with many dangers, challenges, and obstacles.
For conflict is simply not just violent and physical; it can take many other forms, from achieving personal goals to pushing your own boundaries further.
Such things cannot be tried and decided through lazy complacency or through peaceful, wishful hopes, but through the crucible of conflict, both within and without.
