The Either and the Or

“The twins Marr and Moy, fellow captains of the noble XVI Legion. The mighty legion of the Warmaster himself.”

These two Luna Wolves hail from the Horus Heresy series of the game Warhammer 40,000. In the Luna Wolves Legion there were many well-known names: Abaddon, Aximand, Torgaddon, Loken, Sedirae, and Targost, amongst many. But there were two names that were instantly known: Tybalt Marr and Verulam Moy. Both were captains of the 18th and 19th Battle Companies, respectively. The reason why they were so well-known was because both of them were so identical in facial appearance that it was almost impossible to tell one from the other. Thus, they earned the nickname “The Either and the Or.” It was also a habit for both of them to be seen fighting alongside each other in battle constantly. Both worked so well with each other that their companies were often sent together on a campaign.

To that end, I decided to bring the two characters to life. Since I’m not good with drawing male expressions, the next best thing was to make their overall appearance almost identical. So I drew the same armor (Mark IV Maximus-pattern), with the same markings and symbols. Also, earlier in my Ekaddon and Justaerin submissions, I spoke of the idea that the Luna Wolves and Sailor Moon herself were allies and thus could wear some of her symbols as badges of honor. I did the same with Marr and Moy here. Both of them bear the Legion symbol (a gray circle with a crescent moon surmounted by a black wolf’s head), and the exact same number of other symbols (a yellow-slit eye, winged hearts, the crescent moon motif of Sailor Moon (on their foreheads), and the Eye of Horus (a blood-red, slit eye in the center). To give them differentiating looks, I made one a swordsman, the other a marksman. But which is Marr, and which is Moy?
